We are not a specialist wildlife veterinary surgery.
However, we are able to deal with hedgehogs and other garden wildlife and will do our best with other injured wildlife. Before you bring any wildlife down to the surgery it is very important that you assess your actions carefully. Domesticated animals have lived with humans for centuries and have, in the main, developed so that interaction with humans doesn’t cause them stress. One of the exceptions to this is the reaction many pets get when they have to visit the vet! Anyone who has experienced the rapid heartbeat, shaking and involuntary wetting which can occur with a nervous pet is in a good position to understand how much worse it is for a wild animal or bird to have to deal with a human being. In many cases this stress results in shock, or delayed shock, which is sufficient to kill the creature we are trying to save. Please use the links below to help you decide how best to deal with the situation you find yourself in. In some cases (such as finding baby birds) the best solution may be to do very little, in others the animals are best dealt with at home, and sometimes it is best to contact rescue organisations or the vet. Don’t rush into actions which will cause distress, increase suffering or even result in the death of the animals you are trying to help.
